CNC Machining Case Studies

Documented work — the problem, what we actually did, and what came out the other end. Customer names are withheld under NDA; the machining is real.

40 Simple Parts, Quoted as a Day of Work Instead of a Unit Price

Challenge: A customer needed 40 straightforward aluminium parts. At that quantity the honest unit price was several times what the same part would cost in production volume — and a bare number like that looks like gouging, even when it isn't.

What we did: We didn't send a price per piece. We sent what the job actually consumed — one machine, one senior machinist, one full working day from programming through to finished parts, plus shop overhead. No surcharge, no padding: the customer could judge whether it was fair instead of having to guess.

✓ Result: Quote approved and paid the same day. We programmed, machined, inspected and handed the parts to the courier the same day payment cleared.

Machining Into a Certified Supply Chain — Without Holding the Certificate

Challenge: A North American veterinary medical equipment company found us on LinkedIn and needed a supplier holding ISO 13485. We don't hold it — and we said so in the first conversation rather than the fourth.

What happened: They were already travelling to China and asked to visit. They walked our floor, looked at the machines, and concluded we could make the parts — capability confirmed, certificate still missing, and for a regulated device the certificate isn't optional.

The arrangement: The customer sourced their own ISO 13485 certified partner. We machine the components, deliver them to that partner for incoming inspection under their quality system, and they complete final packaging and shipping. Nobody pretends to hold anything they don't. For what we do machine and how we handle inspection, see our medical-device CNC guide.

✓ Result: Continuous supply into the arrangement since it was set up. The customer got the machining capability and a compliant supply chain; we got a customer who knows exactly what they're buying.

Why We Don't Publish Customer Names

Most of our work is covered by NDA, and many customers prefer it not to be public that they manufacture in China. We respect that as a rule, not as an exception — which is why you'll see the work here rather than the logo.

Customer references are available on request under NDA. If you're evaluating us for a program, tell us what you need to verify and we'll arrange a conversation with a customer whose application resembles yours.

We quoted 5x their supplier — and told them to stay put

A US manufacturer's existing supplier beat us by a factor of five. We dug into why, explained it, and lost the order. What ten years of optimisation actually buys.

We don't hold ISO 13485 — here's how medical work still happens

A veterinary device company needed a certificate we don't have. They visited, and we built an arrangement inside their certified supply chain instead.

Why 40 parts cost more per piece than 4,000

Programming, setup and prove-out don't scale with quantity. What that means for your unit price, and how to read a low-volume quote.

A part that looked machinable on screen was wrong for CNC at volume. We explain the process-selection reasoning behind refusing one of the largest orders we've seen.
