CNC Machining Lead Time — How Fast You Can Actually Get Parts
Buyers ask “how long?” before “how much.” Here are realistic timelines for prototypes and small batches, what pushes them out, and how to pull them in.
The Typical Prototyping Timeline
You send a drawing, we review it for manufacturability and return DFM feedback with a priced quote — usually within 24 hours. Once approved, a standard prototype runs 5–7 working days from stock material. A 3-day express service is available subject to slot.
Small-Batch Production Timeline
Orders of 100–10,000 pieces typically run 2–4 weeks. Because the sample and production use the same machines and programs, there is no re-qualification gap — a part proven at ten pieces scales cleanly. Our low-volume production service carries it forward.
What Changes the Lead Time
| Factor | Faster | Slower |
|---|---|---|
| Material | In stock (6061, 304) | Special grade to order |
| Drawing | Clean, toleranced | Sketch needing redraw |
| Inspection | Standard 100% | Full CMM report + certs |
| Finish | As-machined | Anodise / plate / heat treat |
How to Shorten It
Use a stock material, send a drawing with dimensions and tolerances already called out, relax non-critical tolerances, and tell us the deadline up front. We quote the realistic date immediately and flag anything that needs longer — no silent slips.
Shipping to the US and Europe
Samples ship by DHL or FedEx (typically 3–5 days to the US and Europe); production by air or sea with EXW, FOB and DDP terms. We suggest the cheapest viable option for small parcels. First-time, low-quantity jobs are exactly what our small orders page covers.
CNC Lead Time Questions
